Backlash - Media Sabotage

Sabotage by the Public TV in Japan

In Japan, the effort for media coverage of the Tribunal has encountered a number of obstacles. One such obstacle was the rightwing pressure exerted upon the content of the NHK* ETV 2001 series "How to judge wars" aired on January 29, 30, 31 and February 1, 2001. The second episode of this series, which was going to focus on the Tribunal, was mostly edited out and replaced with new scenes by the NHK staff who yielded to the external as well as internal intimidation just a few days before broadcast.
VAWW-NET Japan and International Advisory Committee issued a public letter and statements of protest, however, NHK didn’t show sincere response. On July 24, 2001, VAWW-NET Japan filed a lawsuit against NHK and related productions for compensation.
