Introduction of the Imagens da Terra

The Imagens da Terra was created to document Brazil's recent history. The importance of the image in the comtemporaneous world is indubitable. It's essential as means of information and historical document, working as a link among social movements.

The monopoly of the information is one of the biggest obstacle for construction of democratic society. The Imagens da Terra, a center for documentation and images of workers of Brazil, involves into struggles against that monopoly. Through an 'engaged phtography' we show another side of Brazil that are never appeared in the mass media, or the report by the IBOPE (a govermental research organization for public opinion and statistics).

We show the reality of landless farmers, rubber gatherers in the south of Acre's, denouciation of slave labor and human rights violation, the work in farms and factories and ecology, where the rights of human being should be preserved.

We have more than 150,000 photos of black & white, and color that form our Photo Bank that is unique in Brazil.

All archives of our Photo Bank are available for trade unions, environmental organizations, human rights organizations, and social movements as well as all medias through various ways, such as carring photos in newsletters, exhibitions, contribuing as testments in trial and mass medias, and also giving support of materials for campaign: bottons, posters, cards, T-shirt etc.
